Central Asian Programme

CITIES, ROADS AND CARAVAN SARAIS
AN EMBLEM OF LINKAGES THROUGH THE AGES
(INDIA, WEST AND CENTRAL ASIA)

Purpose of the Seminar

Intellectuals have all along served as bridges between states, strengthened foundations of mutual collaborative efforts and assisted in joining different people. The movement of people and their ideas from the prehistoric period down to our own times had brought different regions close to each other. These age-old relations need continuous nurture. Active relations and the exchange of ideas in socio-religious and cultural spheres and multidimensional developments in political and economic fields may lead to the opening of many new vistas. A detailed study of this presents a fine blend and useful admixture of varied civilizations. The political and cultural interests of the regions are closely linked. The balance of power has maintained in the region through a series of friendly delegations and political embassies and envoys through centuries. Men of talent have been moving back and forth in this area singly or in groups. The share of an individual country in the civilization of other countries is yet to be determined though it had long been assessed and confirmed. The necessity of collaboration and exchange of ideas between the regions has been keenly felt by medieval sovereigns as well as present day political savants, in the interest of peace and stability in the region. This Seminar would initiate a study of Eurasia’s image abroad, its external contacts and its share in the development of global culture.
