Lakshman Kumar Mahapatra (b. 1929), an eminent anthropologist and educationist of international fame, has served Utkal and Sambalpur universities as Vice-Chancellor. He was engaged as the Emeritus Fellow (UGC) at Utkal University in comparative research in rural development in Indonesia and India. He has a deep understanding of complex developmental issues and problems of the tribal people of India and Indonesia. Recipient of several national and international distinctions and awards, he has authored several papers and books.
