This book is the revised text of a lecture of Seyyed Hossein Nasr, in which he delved deep into the causes of the environmental crisis which has gripped both the developed and the developing world. Here he has pondered over some key concepts in Hindu and Islamic thoughts and suggested how these may still help humanity to meet the crisis.

The author's piercing and sharp argument takes the reader through the different approaches of mankind towards nature and the manner in which pure science and technology has been used, to satisfy greed, not need.

 

SEYYED HOSSEIN NASR was born and received his early education in Tehran. He later studied science, philosophy and history of science philosophy and history of science at MIT and Harvard University in America. He also served as Dean and Vice-Chancellor of Tehran University and Chancellor of Aryamehar University. He was the founder and first President of the Iranian Academy of Philosophy and is presently University Professor of Islamic Studies at the George Washington University of America.
