KALANIDHI FOUNDATION DAY

| Kalanidhi is a major respository of reference materials comprising books, microfilm, microfiches, slides, films, cassettes etc. Its special features include an exhaustive reference library with books on over a thousand subjects and the cultural archives having collection of eminent scholars, artistes, art critics and art historians with access to multimedia and database information systems. |

Kalanidhi was formally inaugurated on Basant
Panchmi, on 10th February, 1989. The 14th Annual Day of the
Kalanidhi Divsion was celeberated on 6th February, 2003, in its premises in
the new building. Dr. Om Vikas, Sr. Director, Ministry of
Communication and Technology, Government of India was the Chief Guest at the
function.

The programme began with the blowing of the
conch followed by the lighting of the lamp. Prof. Indra Nath Choudhuri,
Academic Director of IGNCA, delivered the welcome address. Describing
Kalanidhi as the nerve centre of IGNCA, he said the library provides the
academic input to all other Divisons.
To mark the day and the arrival of the spring season, a cultural programme was presented by the students of Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan and Bal Bhawan. Students of Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan and Bal Bhawan. Students of Bhartiya Vidya Bhawan sang the Saraswati Vandana and Basant Geet. Bal Bhawan's children also presented Basant Geet ushering in the spring after the harsh cold days. They presented a skit emphasizing the importance of books and learning as the day is also celebrated as Saraswati Pooja. Dr. O.N. Chaubey from the library delivered a talk on Basant Panchmi. Dr. Dilip Kumar Rana and Shri Gagan John read their poems. Ashok Chakradhar with his humorous speech rendered the atmosphere cheerful. After the cultural programmes, the annual report of Kalanidhi, programme, the annual report of Kalanidhi, highlighting the work done during the year that went by was presented by Ms. Renu Bali. Activities of the library, Slide Unit, Reprography Unit, Conservation Unit, Manuscript Unit, Cultural Archives, and Bibliography Unit were included in the report. Shri R. Bharatadri presented the progress report of the Media Unit and Cultural Archives. Mrs. Neelam Gautam presented the Cultural Informatic Lab's report. Chief Guest Shri Om Vikas in his short speech talked about knowledge based society. He stated that our rich cultural heritage is traditional knowledge that had to be restored, preserved and disseminated with the help of Multi-media, Prof. N.R. Shetty, Member Secretary, IGNCA, in his address congratulated the members of Kalanidhi for making the new premises more lively on this particular occasion. He presented gifts to children who participated in the cultural programme. Prof. Shetty also inaugurated an exhibition of 'Books and Photographs of 2002.' The function of the Kalanidhi day ended with the Vote of Thanks, proposed by Asstt. Librarian Shri Beyaz Hashmi. The programme was compeered by Dr. K.K. Pandey. Report by Ms. Renu Bali |
