  SPECIAL LECTURES

Rock Art unit is organizing a Special Lecture Series to give a global scenario of the rock art and provide an overall status of rock art research in different continents of the world with rock art concentration. These lectures will be delivered by internationally renowned scholars in the field of rock art. These lectures would be giving a vivid representation of the subjects/themes which are important today; While keeping in view the future development of conceptual academic programmes designed to encapsulate the ‘primeval vision’ or Adi Drshya of human beings in universal and cross-cultural perspectives. The aim of these public lectures is to enhance awareness and promote rock art research globally.

  • Special lecture titled ’Rock Art in Northern Vindhyan Region’ by Prof. R.K Varma on 5th March, 2013 at Bharat Kala Bhawan Museum.

  • Lecture on ‘Rock Art in North Vindhyan Region and Prehistoric Rock Art Vindhyas in Uttar Pradesh and adjoining areas, North Central India’ by J.N Pal on 6th March, 2013 at Bharat Kala Bhawan Museum.
     

Assam (Guwahati)

  • Special lecture on ‘Megaliths and Rock Art Tradition in the East and North- Eastern States of India’ by Dr. Somnath Chakravorty on (12th April 2013) at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra (SSK).

  • Lecture on ‘Megalithic Monuments and the Context of Rock Art in North-East India’ by Dr. Dwipen Bezbaruah on 13th April, 2013 at Srimanta Sankaradeva Kalakshetra (SSK).
     

Odisha (Bhubaneswar)

  • Special lectures on the ‘Rock Art of Odisha and Living Traditions Associated with it‘ by Prof. Jagannath Dash on 18th May,2013 and Dr. Devananda Beura on 19th May,2013 at Odisha State Museum.
     

Puducherry (Puducherry)

  • Special lectures of Rock Art of Southern India titled ‘Rock Art and its Cultural Context- Recent evidences in Tamil Nadu’ by Prof. K. Rajan on 25th July, 2013 at Department of History Pondicherry University.

  • Lecture on ‘Rock Art in Andhra Pradesh’ by Dr. N. Chandramouli was organized on 26th July, 2013 at Department of History Pondicherry University.


Karnataka (Bengaluru)

  • Special lectures on ‘Rock Art of Southern India: Neolithic to Early Histiorical’ by Prof. A Sundara on 3rd December, 2013 at National Gallery of Modern Art.

  • Lecture on ‘Southern India Upper Palaeolithic to Mesolithic’ by Prof. Ravi Korisettar on 4th December, 2013 at National Gallery of Modern Art.

Kerala (Thirpunithara)

  • Special lecture on ‘Rock Art of Kerala’ by Prof. (Dr.) M.G.S Narayanan on 28th November, 2014 at Union Christian College, Aluva, Kerala.

  • Lecture on ‘Perceivinig the Ancient Mind: A Journey through Indian Rock Art’ by Prof. K. Krishnan on 29th November, 2014 at Centre for Heritage Studies (CHS), Thirpunithara respectively.
     

Tamilnadu (Thanjavur)

  • A special lecture on the ‘Rock Art of Tamilnadu’ by Prof. K. Rajan, on 7th May, 2015 at Sangeetha Mahal Palace Complex, Thanjavur

  • A special lecture titled 'Rock Paintings in Uttar Pradesh with special reference to Sonbhadra district’ by Prof. D. P. Tiwari  on  26th April 2016 at Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences.

  • Another special lecture titled ‘Determining the Antiquity of Rock Art’ by Dr. C.M. Nautiyal’ on 27th April 2016 at Birbal Sahni Institute of Palaeosciences.

Himachal Pradesh (Shimla)

  • A special lecture titled ‘Rock art in the western Himalayan region: A review’ by Dr. O. C. Handa on 15th June 2016 at the auditorium, Himachal State Museum, Shimla.

  • Another special lecture titled 'Rock Art of Spiti Valley' by Dr. Hari Chauhan on 16th June 2016 at the auditorium, Himachal State Museum, Shimla.

Punjab (Chandigarh)

  • A special lecture titled ‘Prehistory of the Siwalik Ranges of Punjab’ by Dr. Mukesh Singh on 10th August, 2016 was organised at the Dept. of A.I.H.C & A, Punjab University, Chandigarh.

  • Another special lecture titled ‘An analysis of Prehistoric Indian Rock Art’ by Dr. Paru Bal Sidhu on 11th August, 2016 2016 was organised at the Dept. of A.I.H.C & A, Punjab University, Chandigarh.

  • A special lecture titled ‘A Prehistoric Art: An Appraisal’ by Dr. Renu Thakur on 11th August, 2016 was organized at the Dept. of A.I.H.C & A, Punjab University, Chandigarh
