Introduction

The Southern Regional Centre was established in 2001 at Bangalore. This was primarily with a view to expand research activities in South India. The suggestion to start SRC came up during a brainstorming session at Delhi and was later approved by the Executive Committee. The move received a boost by the active support and initiative of the former Hon. Union Minister Sri Ananth Kumar, former Hon. Chief Minister of Karnataka Sri S.M. Krishna. 

The foundation of SRC building on ten-acre land provided by the authorities of the Bangalore University was laid and the Bhoomi Pooja took place on Oct. 15, 2002. The new building is ready for occupation now.

The Southern Regional centre is a nodal centre for study, research and dissemination of the arts and culture, with particular focus on South India. 

Through research, publication, training, creative activities and performances, the IGNCA SRC seeks to place the arts within the context of the natural and human environment. 

The Southern Regional Centre is devoted to cross-cultural exchanges, and various development in the field of art and culture of India in general and the south India in particular. The centre has taken up several research projects and academic activities.

 


Activities at SRC
To a large extent, the SRC will maintain special emphasis on the contributions of Southern India to the field of arts and culture.
